About Gombe National park

Gombe National Park is a small, remote park in western Tanzania, famous for its chimpazee populations. It is accessible only by boat from Kigoma, the park offers activities like chimpazee trekking, guided nature walks, bird watching, and lake excursions on Lake Tanganyika. Its landscape features steep valleys, forests, and grasslands along the lake's shore. It is situated on the eastern shore of lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, near the border with the Congo. The park is inaccessible by road and can only be reachead by boat from Kigoma, a town about 16 km south of the park.

Why Gombe National Park?

The park's primary attraction is its chimpazees. Visitors can go on guided treks to observe them in their natural habitat. Gombe is also a home to other primates like olive baboons, red colobus monkeys, and blue monkeys. Over 200 species of birds can be found here, including forest, aquatic, and migratory birds. Other animals includes bush pigs, hippos, and various other forest species. Lake Tanganyika itself is rich with life, including the nearly 100 kinds of colorful cichlid fish that snorkelers can see.
