Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's second largest national park, located in the southern part of the country, famous for its large elephant population, diverse wildlife like the greater and lesser kudu, and rugged, pristine landscapes. The park is a prime safari destination, especially during the dry season when animals gather near the Great Ruaha river, a is also a haven for birdwatchers.

Why Ruaha National Park?

It covers an area of 20,226 square kilometers, making it the second largest national park in Tanzani. It is part of a larger ecosystem that includes several game reserves and wildlife management areas, totaling over 45,000 square kilometer. It has the largest elephant population in East Africa, with around 10,000 individuals. It is also known for its large populations of buffalo, and is the only park in Tanzania where you can find both greater and lesser kudu, along with sable and roan antelopes. Lions, leopards, and wild dogs are commonly found in the park. Over 540 species of birds have been recorded here, with the park becoming a birdwatcher's paradise, especially from October to January when migratory birds arrive.
